Marc Ecko Beats NYC in Court, Saves The Rhinos
Last month, a federal court ordered New York City to stop enforcing new graffiti laws immediately.
Well last Thursday morning, a federal appellate court denied New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg’s, Councilman Peter Vallone’s and the city’s motion to keep its graffiti laws in place.
“We financed the case for eight plaintiffs in a federal court in New York for purchasing and possessing aerosol paint and wide-tipped markers between the ages of 18-21,” Ecko exclusively told Vibe.com. Then the city went to an appellate court to appeal it and today (June 8) the appeals court threw it out.
right “So our ruling sticks. We won. We’re victorious and it’s done.”
Following Ecko’s huge legal victory over New York City, Thursday only got better for the mogul, as he had Rhymefest, Lupe Fiasco, Styles P, Rakim and Common perform at his Save The Rhinos benefit concert at Central Park later in the evening.
Rhymefest opened the show performing cuts like, "Brand New" and "Dynomite." Lupe Fiasco followed Rhymefest by showing the Central Park crowd how he skateboards with, "Kick, Push." Before Common closed the show, Rakim schooled the younger fans in the crowd with legendary cuts like, "Paid in Full," "Guess Who's Back" and "Follow The Leader."
“We’ll raise about a $150,000 today, so it’s a beautiful thing and it’s all with the support of hip hop,” said an excited Ecko. “Rakim is one of my favorite artists of all time and a lot of the young cats out here right now never seen him perform.”
