Jordan, a six-time NBA title winner with the
Chicago Bulls, has become part-owner of the
Charlotte Bobcats. As a part-owner, Jordan will additionally assume the role of team president for the upstart franchise.
right With the move, the 43-year-old Jordan joins primary owner and
BET founder
Bob Johnson, as one of the few African-American duos in all of professional sports to serve in such lofty positions. Rap star
Nelly is also a minority owner of the Bobcats.
Arguably the most popular player to ever play the game, Jordan’s arrival, albeit along the sidelines, is expected to jumpstart what has been a rather sluggish gate reception for the three-year-old team. Despite a new state-of-the art arena and their own television network, the Bobcats ranked 22nd in home attendance last season.
Charlotte owns the third overall pick in the upcoming
NBA Draft and with more than $20 million available under the salary cap, is expected to be among the most active teams on the free-agent market.
