At
Marc Ecko’s Save The Rhinos concert last night (June 8), the legendary
Rakim announced that his new album,
The Seventh Seal, will drop this summer on his own label.
He also seemed excited to record collaborations, including one with
Nas.
“We’re trying to get that nailed down. That’s my little dude. Me and Nas got a long history,” Rakim exclusively told
Vibe.com after his onstage performance. “Hopefully, we could sit down in the studio and make something real special, man. I got a couple of nice collabs, but I want to keep them a secret.
“I got my own label which means, no one can tell me anything. So, I just want to get back to work and finish where I left off.”

The 18th Letter was supposed to drop his tentatively titled
Oh My God LP with
Dr. Dre’s Aftermath label, he’s not bitter that the situation didn’t work out.
“We’re two different people, where I have been doing my thing for a long time and he’s been doing his thing for a long time,” said Rakim. “What works for me, works for me. What works for him, works for him. I respect him."
Despite the split from Aftermath, The Seventh Seal may still very well include production from Dre.
