“I did not want to take it to any problems. I wanted the album to be a celebration of love, being grown and having a good time,” Sleepy told
Vibe.com about his
Mr. Brown LP, due in stores Sept. 26 on
Purple Ribbon/Virgin Records. “So, it’s feel-good records and it’s love records. It’s all kind of stuff, but it’s no hurt, or I hurt you.
“It’s Saturday cleaning-up music, it’s card-playing cookouts, it’s ladies and brothers getting ready to go out to the club. It’s that kind of album.”
Brown’s feel-good mood on the album is evident by his lead single, “Margarita.” The track places Brown alongside
Pharrell and
Big Boi over a
Neptunes production, that oozes summer appeal.
right “I chose it for the first single because it’s such a summer song. It’s so Miami,” Brown said of “Margarita.” “Pharrell blessed me with the record. He called me and said he got a fly ass record for me and I was like great I’m just very, very happy with it.”
Despite “Margarita” conjuring thoughts of Miami, Brown revealed that the video was recently shot in Spain.
Brown worked on albums for the likes of
Outkast and
TLC, as one-third of the legendary production force,
Organized Noize. However, Brown was thrusted into the mainstream spotlight with his guest appearance on Big Boi’s smash hit, “The Way You Move.”
