That’s why they’re prepping their new album,
Game Theory, for an Aug. 29 release on
Def Jam Recordings.
Game Theory will have The Roots speaking about topics like government monitoring and uneasiness in society. The Roots even tackle the heated subject of war on their, “False Media” track. In addition,
Game Theory will have the Philadelphia-based hip hop band honoring their beloved friend and producer
James Yancey aka
J-Dilla, who died from kidney failure in February.

Black Thought said in a press release statement sent to
Vibe.com. Roots’ drummer,
?uestlove, adds that the
Game Theory LP is “very mature, serious and very dark.”
The drum-heavy “It Don’t Feel Right” is the LP's lead single.
Game Theory also features samples from the likes of
The Jackson 5,
Sly Stone and
the Ohio Players.
The Roots released their last album,
The Tipping Point, in 2004. That compilation included the smash single “Don’t Say Nuthin’”, produced by
Scott Storch.
