Justice Ellen Gesmer suspended criminal indictments of weapon possession and child endangerment filed against the radio personality by DJ Envy, whose real name is Raashaun Casey, on Thursday over insults and threats slung on air at the Hot 97 disc jockey's wife and four-year old daughter. right "I never should have been arrested in the first place. This was not a crime," Star told the associated press in a phone interview, hailing the ruling as a triumph for freedom of speech. On May 10, Clear Channel executives over the Philadelphia station axed Star from his eponymous show amid controversy and charges docketed over the comments fired at Envy. Two days later, police arrested the acid-tongued DJ and ordered him to surrender a 9mm handgun and a target-practice permit. Yet Star, who called Envy's wife of Asian descent a “slant-eyed whore” and who threatened to track down Envy's child so as to urinate on and molest by “R. Kelly[ing]” her, is no stranger to hot messes. In January of 2005, both Star and Buc Wild ducked racial accusations after broadcasting a “Morning Show” sketch in which Star pretended to order hair beads from a customer service call center outsourced to India. During the call, Star threatened to “choke” the operator and called her a “filthy rat-eater.” A one-day suspension and an apology issued by the hosts settled offended listeners who threatened to file complaints to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
