Janet Jackson Super Bowl Wardrobe Mishap Still Raising Ire

On Friday, representatives of the network beseeched an appeals court to waive a $550,000 fine filed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for CBS's broadcast of the uncloaked and shockingly subversive female anatomy--aka Janet Jackson's breast at Super Bowl. right "CBS has apologized to the American people for the inappropriate and unexpected half-time incident, and immediately implemented safeguards that have governed similar broadcasts ever since,” CBS said in a statement. “However, we disagree strongly with the FCC's conclusions and will continue to pursue all remedies necessary to affirm our legal rights.” Upon knowledge of the appeal, on Wednesday the FCC stood by its penalty against CBS, affirming in a 16-page order that certain laws against indecent broadcasts were breeched by “the offensive spectacle of a man tearing off a woman's clothing on stage.” In September 2004, The FCC issued a $27,500 fine--the maximum penalty for indecency--on 20 CBS owned stations, grand totaling in a sizable penance for the network.
