David Banner and Trina Host Ozone Awards

Claiming to be the first hip hop award show of its kind, the Ozone Awards will honor southern grown artists who are cultivating the regions’ credibility for innovative hip hop. Performances will include Lil’ Wayne, Trick Daddy, Rick Ross, Pimp C, Too Short, and more. right “You have the BET Awards and The Vibe Awards they only pay attention to the major artists,” explained Julia Beverly, Ozone’s founder and publisher, to SOHH.com, “and then you have some of the independent award shows like The Southern Entertainment Awards that cater to the independent artists solely, but we wanted draw the line somewhere in the middle. We have a lot of independent love as well as good relationships with the majors.” Banner is up for three awards, according to the ClarionLedger.com, but six other Mississippi artists will also have their chance to spit for an award in Ozone's own Mississippi-specific category, "Patiently Waiting: Mississippi". This category, mostly focuses on underground talent in the area, exemplifying Ozone’s support of regional rising stars. The preceding conference will be packed with productive workshops and panels that include some of the top A&R's in the game, including Shady Records, Asylum, Atlantic, Sony and Jive to name a few.
