Bentley (ne Derek Watkins), who signed with Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. music label, a joint venture with Sony Music, plans on releasing his debut album, C.O.L.O.U.R.S., an acronym for “Cool Outrageous Lovers of Uniquely Raw Style,” says Bentley, early 2007.
left “I don’t think it’s a secret that I’ve traveled. I picked a lot of things from my travels," Bentley said exclusively to Vibe.com. "It’s bossanova, rich New Orleans jazz, there’s some ghetto ATL but like throwback ATL, not like what’s going on now as far as Atlanta music. There’s some rich classical sounds, I play the violin. There’s some of that flavor. I named the title that because every song is like its own color.”
A notable single from C.O.L.O.U.R.S., “Since I Was Nine,” describes his desire to get on the mic since he was a young boy. The album features ‘Ye of course, Andre 3000, label mate trio Sa-Ra, and trip-hop singer Esthero.
Bentley is best known as Diddy’s former ‘manservant’ and personal assistant. He later moved on to bigger things, making appearances in several hip hop videos for fellow Atlanta-bred artists Usher and Outkast, holding down a gig as “Fashion Correspondent” for NBC’s Access Hollywood and hosting his own MTV pilot “Borrow My Crew”.
A book is also scheduled for release in 2007 entitled, Fonzworth Bentley’s Guide to Hip Hop Etiquette for Ladies and Gentlemen of All Ages.
