Idlewild Opens With Best Per-Screen Average
right The hip hop musical made $5.8 million dollars and was No. 9 at the box office, according to mtv.com. Compared to the top-grossing movie of the weekend—Invincible, the football saga starring Mark Wahlberg, which earned more than $17 million—that may not seem like a lot.
But do a little number crunching and you’ll find that, technically, Idlewild made more money. Idlewild was shown in only 973 theaters and made more than $6,000 per screen, while Invincible, which was shown on 2,900 screens, only made about $5, 800 per screen.
