After promising six months ago to build 65 new homes for victims of Hurricane Katrina, Oprah’s Angel Network moved 12 families into houses in Houston. Oprah personally pledged $10 million toward the construction of 65 new homes for victims of the storm. right Housewares and furniture were provided by Oprah’s Katrina Homes registry, which allowed viewers to go online and donate items to those displaced by Katrina. These homes were not provided free of charge, though. Each family receiving a place worked 300 hours alongside volunteers as a “down payment.” As expected, the new homeowners were overcome by the sight of their houses. “It’s so beautiful!” said Tammy, whose family moved into one of the first homes. “I’m so excited I think I’m going to fall down!” Have a news tip?
