Cassie is the latest R&B singer to be accused of swagger-jacking Ms. Jackson. At first glance, the video for “Me & U” is a clear allusion to Jackson’s 1986 hit “Pleasure Principal,” as both videos showcase the singers performing in empty dance studios wearing form-fitting dance gear. Of course, Cassie says that the similarities were unintentional. right "I'd love to emulate her career. She's incredible, from her moves to her voice,” Cassie told Contact Music. "I'm a diehard fan of Janet but …I was just rehearsing in the studio, they filmed me and the record label thought it would be great for the video." According to reports, the original version of the “Me & U” video was a lot more sexually-suggestive and was scrapped for a more MTV-friendly version. R&B singer Ciara has also had her share of Janet comparisons. During a recent appearance on BET’s "106 & Park", Jackson addressed the issue, saying that Ciara’s new video reminded her of her own work. Amidst chants of “Janet! Janet!” by the crowd, Jackson clarified that it was all love, saying that she is cool with Ciara, who has publicly acknowledged that Jackson is one of her biggest influences. Jackson’s album 20 Y.O. drops September 26. Have a news tip? Email us.
