The new disc, which is led by the single “Listen,” will be released under his newly-formed label, Blacksmith Music/Warner Bros., and will feature guest appearances from his long-time producer partner Hi-Tek, UGK’s Bun B, Pimp C, and up-and-coming R&B singer Raheem Devaughn among others, according to billboard.com. left As far as content goes, the new Kweli CD doesn’t stray far from the rapper’s usual revolutionary fare. “The vast majority of my subject matter focuses on black self-love, black self esteem, black self-worth," he tells Billboard. "That translates to other communities because if you're a human being, it doesn't matter what color you're talking about. You've been through some sort of struggle and you can apply it to your own life." Along with putting the finishing touches on his own solo disc, Kweli will help launch new projects by his other Blacksmith artists, including rappers Jean Grae and Strong Arm Steady, a group that includes Xzibit, Phil the Agony, Krondon, and Mitchy Slick. “With Blacksmith, I want it to be a flag that everyone can wave,” he says. Kweli is currently on tour promoting the new album. He’ll play various dates in California, Oregon, and Washington over the next few weeks before heading overseas to do shows in Hamburg, Paris, and London. Have a news tip? Email us.
