Will Smith Inks Deal With Bollywood Firm
Under the deal, Overbrook and UTV will develop films that have a global reach and appeal, reports Business Standard. Sony will then distribute them in studios worldwide. The deal also reportedly includes a co-production agreement on Fox Searchlight’s forthcoming film I Think I Love My Wife, starring comedian Chris Rock.
left Smith’s interest in the Indian movie industry piqued when he toured Mumbai in February and met with Bollywood power players, including India’s biggest star Aishwarya Rai.
“I would love to work with Bollywood queen Aishwarya Rai and feel a marriage between Bollywood and Hollywood is required,” Smith was quoted as saying then. “I would do anything that Aishwarya Rai will be part of. I love her so,” he told Contact Music.
According to the Business Standard, the first two projects of the deal will be a live-action film valued at $10 million and a CG animated motion picture at $20 million.
Back in the U.S., Smith and his real-life son Jaden can be seen in the upcoming film, The Pursuit of Happiness, which is set for a December 15 release.
