As if anyone needed more proof that rappers never really retire, Jay-Z has a new album on the way.
In Entertainment Weekly’s fall music preview which hit stands today (Sept. 15), Jigga says he will drop a new LP, Kingdom Come, his first since The Black Album, which was supposed to be his last album.
right While no decision has been made on what guest emcees will be featured—“I can take care of that at the end,” Hov said—he did tell EW that Timbaland, Kanye West, Coldplay’s Chris Martin and Dr. Dre will lend production. Jay also hopes to work with Rick Rubin, who produced The Black Album’s “99 Problems” in 2003.
The varied production list reflects Jay’s desire to try new styles. “I’ve been experimenting with different things, different types of music,” he said.
Jay also mentioned he has scheduled a two-month tour through Europe, Asia, Australia and Africa. As part of a United Nations program to bring attention to those without access to drinking water, he will visit areas in Africa hit by water shortages. A documentary of his time in Africa, Jay-Z: Water for Life, will air on MTV November 24.
But one question remains—is Kingdom Come going to be Jay-Z’s last LP?
“If I wake up one day and the best material has passed me by — and that's going to happen--'then it's time to move on,” he said. “I've said what I wanted to say.”
