Azim Sultan, member of one of the top ten richest families in the world, requested Monica's presence for his reportedly million dollar bash, claiming to be a huge fan of her music, especially "Angel of Mine" and "So Gone." left "It was one of the most memorable experiences of my entire career," said Monica during an exclusive Vibe.com interview. "As an entertainer we get to see things when we travel but we don’t often get to experience them. You just never know how far our music makes it." And though the flight to Brunei was 21 hours, Monica claims it was well worth it. " I surprised Azim by performing at his party," said Monica. "For the next three days we just walked through the Empire and took in the experience." As far as the look and feel of Brunei and its people, Monica said the differences between that country and the United States are "tremendous". "This is a place where they are still beheading people," Monica said, "So you walk around however you want and just enjoy the scenery. People are very respectful and pleasant." So much so that Monica was greeted with an "incredible 12 karat ring with a mixture of diamonds and colorful jewels." "It just blew me away," she stated. "I honestly hope that they are able to come to the states to see what my life entails, especially now that we’re friends," she said. "I think that it would be interesting for them to come and visit me because just like their life was a shock for me, I’m sure that my life would be a shock for them." Monica's album, The Makings of Me, hits stores October 3, 2006.
