"Death Around The Corner exemplifies what VIBE Street Lit is all about," says Vibe's Editorial Director of Vibe Books, Rob Kenner, "bringing the phenomenon of urban fiction to the next level." left "Building on VIBE’s long tradition of editorial excellence, we draw on a rich talent pool to bring our readers the stories that mainstream publishing has long ignored or resisted. VIBE Street Lit is all about powerful stories, unforgettable characters, and authentic language, combined with the highest editorial and artistic standards." When Corey Miller a.k.a. C-Murder began writing this book, he was facing a life sentence for second degree murder—although he's always maintained his innocence. He wrote the entire novel by hand from the Jefferson County in Louisiana, sending the chapters to a relative on the outside who typed them up for him. After working this way for almost two years, and after Hurricane Katrina, several chapters were lost but eventually re-discovered. C-Murder was later released due to problems with the prosecution’s case. Tracing the life of Daquan, a five-year-old boy growing up in New Orleans’s toughest housing projects, and with a cameo apperance by No Limit Records' Master P, Death Around The Corner pulls no punches as it follows him through family drama, school, jail, hustling, and the rap game. But as Daquan soon discovers, it takes more than luck to escape the streets. Visit www.DeathAroundTheCorner.com for more information. Have a news tip? Email us.
