Ocean Tomo, a firm that specializes in leveraging intellectual property assets, announced that the haul from Hendrix will be included in its Fall 2006 Intellectual Property Auction at Capitale in New York City. More than 15,000 of the guitarist’s assets will be available. left Most exciting to music fans are the nearly 50 tapes, commonly referred to as “Personal Reels of Jimi Hendrix.” Those tapes contain recordings from jam sessions, rehearsals and studio mix-downs. The collection also includes rare films, the master rights to 33 songs Hendrix recorded with bandleader Curtis Knight, and “Station Break,” a lost Hendrix recording. This is believed by industry observers to be the most comprehensive Jimi Hendrix collection on Earth. “The collection contains hours of recordings from Hendrix’s prime," said Hendrix expert Vincent Tornatore. "The majority of which is not only unreleased, but is of higher quality than previously-released versions of similar material.” Though his recording career was only about four years, Hendrix is almost universally considered the greatest guitarist of all-time. He released three albums in his lifetime, each of which is considered a rock classic. Hendrix died at age 27 in 1970.
