Red Café Reps For Non-Dancers With New Single, Preps Debut Album
“To me, that’s just like a New York thing,” Red Café told Vibe.com of the dance, which is also the title of his underground smash. “It’s all about your swagger, what you do, your bounce. The way you walk, the way you talk – that’s your Diddy Bop.”
left Red represented for those with two left feet at Howard University’s Homecoming earlier this month. Sporting a turquoise hoodie with a matching black and blue fitted cap, the rapper had the audience bouncing to the heavy bass and shrieking whistles of his catchy banger.
“This is the craziest homecoming on the East Coast,” Red said of his performance venue, unlit cigar in hand. “It’s legendary. I feel good about saying that. There are powerful people that have come from this school, a lot of powerful people in the music industry.”
Red Café is currently on tour promoting his debut album, The Shakedown (Universal/Motown), which he says is “100 percent hustler music.”
“Hustling doesn’t just have to be negativity or anything illegal,” Red tells Vibe.com. “If you go to school and you got a job then you’re a hustler because you’re trying to make it happen. You’re pushing, you’re not settling. So that’s what you’re going get, you’re going to get hustler music.”
For Café, the years of hustling with DJ Whoo Kid will finally pay off December 5, when The Shakedown hits stores.
“I’ve been working at it for a long time. I got a lot of supporters and I’m just happy to finally be able to give them what they’ve been waiting for.”
And a new dance to go along with it.
