Family of Deceased Girl Ask To Ban Dutty Wine Dance
left The Jamaica Gleaner reports that while taking part in a dutty wine competition at a school dance in the Beacon Hill neighborhood, Tanisha Henry collapsed and was rushed to the nearby Spanish Town Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The dutty wine is a strenuous whirlwind of a dance in which the head and posterior are rotated simultaneously. To the untrained eye, this is something that could well cause bodily harm – specifically deadly whiplash.
According to reports, at least two medical experts have expressed divergent views on whether the Dutty Wine could possibly have caused Henry's death, reporting the autopsy results as inconclusive.
Henry's death has obviously resulted much shock and grief to Henry's family, prompting some members to publicly call for the banning of the dance, while others have said that dutty wine contests should be prohibited by the Government.
