Santana, better known as 'Romeo' of the WB comedy The Steve Harvey Show, for which he was awarded an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, was born on March 14, 1976 in Upper Manhattan. His Dominican parents got him into show biz at the age of 3 with hopes that he stay off the streets. left At the age of 15, Santana landed a role on The Cosby Show, where he played a charismatic boy named Stanley, one of a young Rudy Huxtable's friends. He later joined the cast of Getting By, the drama Under One Roof, and made appearances in Moesha, Major Dad, Half and Half, and Sister, Sister, among many others. On November 9, 2002, Santana died of a gun shot to the head. Reportedly, after being falsely accused of rape by a young woman, two armed men opened fire at the actor, who sat in a car with a male friend, killing Santana and wounding the other. One of the male suspects was charged with murder and 25 years to life in prison. The other, who pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and assault, and the woman, who was charged with one count of murder and attempted murder, are both still awaiting sentencing. Merlin Santana is survived by a daughter.
