"The reason he didn’t really jump back on the scene and do all this press and try to get all this publicity off of it is because he’s having a meeting with himself, and really trying to find his purpose, spiritually and mentally," Swizz says during a Vibe.com interview about Cassidy's decision to fully recover before hitting the booth. "And, I could respect that because most n*ggas would just do a mixtape and be like straight out the car accident, bang, bang, bang! It worked when Kanye did it, but he ain’t have no interest in none of that, and I support whatever he wants to do."
right After a car accident in New Jersey on October 4th, 2006, that left him with a fractured skull, and following numerous corrective surgeries, Cassidy, 24, who was released from prison earlier this year after serving a term on conviction of involuntary manslaughter and aggravated assault, had plans on dropping his already completed album mid-year prior to the car crash. Though the first single off the record, "It Is What It Is," hit radio during the 2nd quarter, Swizz says they're holding off on releasing it until Cassidy makes a full recovery and starts to make music again.
"The reason I aint put nothing out from his album is 'cause his whole expression might be different on it now," he explains. "He's been through so much. His story is just a fucking movie now. It’s beyond a wrap."
As far as the "Come and Get Me" track that has Cass fans anxious for his return, Swizz clears the air. "That’s a track he did on my album, and the reason we put that out is 'cause I’m for my artist first. Unfortunately the Cass situation, it threw off the plan a little bit, 'cause his shit is supposed to already be poppin' right now, but then I was like you know, lets do something where they could still hear his voice.
"I gotta protect his interest, and I got my other song out, but at the same time they need to hear this shit with me and Cass too."
Though Cassidy is mostly attending non-music sessions these days (i.e. therapy), and following strict orders from the doctors, including self-healing, after a visit to his east coast home last week, Swizz says "when I seen him I was shocked 'cause he’s healing so fast that you would never think his injuries were as bad as they were. You know, the time before that when I seen him, it looked like he was gonna be out of commission for a very, very long time. But, when I seen him this time, I was like, we can get it poppin' at the top of the year if you keep going at this rate!"
"He’s on his feet, he’s just got the marks on his face," Swizz adds. "He's writing. He’s on the grind right now as we speak." Cassidy may not be talking music yet, but rest assured he will be, and very soon.
