left "Tapping the net is a great way to reach fans because we feel that u are reaching the truest form
of music lover," Pusha T of Clipse said in a statement. “This promotion caters to
the hungry, searching, passionate fan and gives them an outlet to express themselves and be a part
of the music they love."
As the contest rules state, aspiring emcees can upload video freestyles at
clipseonline.com/micbattle, and from there they can choose one of the contest partners to represent them, or act as an independent. The top four contestants from each category will compete in a tournament, and the public will vote for the winner beginning December 20th.
The rapper with the best freestyle will be invited to appear on Clipse’s first mixtape of 2007.
For those applying to the contest, Pusha T gave some insight into what he feels makes a good
freestyle. "Honesty; if the listener can feel the honesty, u will lock them in. Metaphors;
the better u draw parallels, makes the verse more memorable, and Cohesion; make the freestyle make
sense!"
Last week, Clipse returned to the music scene with their sophomore album Hell Hath No Fury,
produced entirely by The Neptunes. Their first single off the album, "Mr. Me Too," peaked at No. 65
on the BillBboard Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart.
