The Hip Hop Association and Urban Word NYC, two non-profit organizations, announced today plans for the It’s All About M.E.E. (Media, Expression and Entertainment) Festival, which is intended to bring greater attention to the potential hip hop has to inform and inspire. Taking place February 23-25, 2007, the festival hopes to provide a forum for scholars, students and artists to come together and use hip hop as a vehicle for progress. On the 23rd, the Freshest Youth Program will offer programs on breakdancing, graffiti, emceeing and deejaying along with film screenings. The festival’s next day will feature the Urban Word Annual Teen Poetry Slam Finals. The 25th will have workshops to show ways teachers, social workers and parents can use hip hop as an educational tool. There will also be film screenings that day. Martha Diaz, President of The Hip Hop Association, thinks It’s All About M.E.E. is essential. “Our partnership with Urban Word NYC will offer additional opportunities in programming and resources for the community. This type of collaboration is what we need in order to make a significant impact on our youth,” she says.
