The parents of Awatef Aboudihaj, 38, filed the suit in Los Angeles County Superior Court Tuesday after the California Highway Patrol found Brandy was at fault for the accident. On Monday, the Patrol recommended to the city attorney that the singer be charged with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter.
Aboudihaj died from blunt trauma after Brandy's Land Rover crashed into her Honda, which struck two other vehicles before coming to a stop. Investigators have determined Brandy was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the accident.
The lawsuit accuses Brandy of "reckless driving," and seeks $50 million in compensatory and punitive damages. In a statement, Brandy's spokesperson said, "The accident was a terrible tragedy, and Brandy's heart goes out to Awatef Aboudihaj's family. But for legal reasons we cannot comment on this lawsuit."

But i will keep brandy in my prayers so that God will be always by her side and ever. Peace out from Mr. Robertolino Odige

Seems to me that they probably don't have any life insurance and since shes got money they're going for it. if it was someone who had little money in comparison there would likely be no lawsuit for money, just the oone for vehicular manslaughter

I think this lawsuit is frivolous. They are only suing Brandy for that much money b/c they think she has it b/c she is a famous singer. I mean, I know that they lost a family member but this amount of money is ridiculous. It's not going to bring the family member back......

I don't think she should serve time just because she was in a fatal accident. I think that is why our prisons are over populated now... people think that every "accident" deserves a punishment. Yes, a life was taken away. Can you imagine the anguish she is going through just because of that? Unless she is a sociopath, then she has to be feeling some sort of guilt. That in itself is enough for me to feel she is being punished enough. I don't feel this because she is famous... I think this way regardless.............

I mean people make mistakes all the time. At the same time we have to be fair with the trial. Someone did lose their lives b/c someone else was careless. Brandy is hurting also but her family will never see her again. Therefore should Brandy serve time?...yes and should they sue her also?...If thats going to make the family happy then i think that they should. The way that they would treat this b/c i did it, is the same way that they should treat it b/c its Brandy.

I think that the charging of 50million dollars for the accident Brandi was in is b/s. Because the person is just probably looking to get some cash. I mean she was like a role modle for some people and doing that to her is f**ked up!

i think i agree with most when I say that Brandy should not be sued for 50 million dollars because of this accident. True someone's life was taken away but the reality is, things like this happen all the time. Trust me when I say, no sane and reasonable person ever gets behind the wheel with the attitude of " I don't care if I kill someone today". And to say that it was not an accident is hatred and judgemental on anybody's part. I don't care who you are, if you are a driver, at some point, you have been distacted, even if its for 1/2 of a second. Some people are just fortunate enough to not have been involved in an accident when those distractions do occur. What about those people who have non alcohol or substance related accidents and kill themselves? Should we say oh they deserved it because it wasn't an accident because the weather was to clear or something of that matter. The correct thing for everyone to do is to pray for the victim's family and Brandy, and to stop judging because you yourself will have to be judged one day.

Uh... just cuz I feel like commenting... but as with any article posted in the media... no one has all the facts but those involved... so... who really has the right to judge... but anyway...also... I think 50 mill is pure greed...granted life is precious and priceless... but if it is such, then how can one want money to replace that life... not even possible... George, Abe, and Ben are all gone, and 1s 5s and 10s aren't going to bring them back either... i think they want her to hurt as much as they do... so get her where it hurts "legally"... but is Brandy even worth 50 mil... (I mean in regards to assets...) I don't know... just askin'....

Wow!! It seems alot of attention is going to Brandy, what about the victims family? From what I have read so far that Brandy has some fans on here. First, Kimberly you seem to be so religious but aren't you the one who said a little while ago that "if I make a mistake you hope I get the MAX" for such a religious woman you would tell somebody you hope they get the max, what religion are you "Hate theis" talking about praying, you need to think about that one just on that note, I'm stating my opinion not wishing things on people like you and even (SLC)I'm expressing myself to the article itself not starting some things with others. As far as my comments hey it is what it is! Not saying how or what issues you or anybody needs to deal with. Check it for the record! SLC, and Kimberly the comments I made about irresponsibility, (SLC) I see what you're saying, but Kimberly come on now again I say to you if you can see out that windshield and there is nothing disrupting your view how do you explain hitting a vehicle at a stand still, (accident)I aint buying it. The family is suffering a great deal more than Brandy trust and believe that.

I feel the same way SLC. I feel Will has some person issues he needs to resolve regarding his loss in life. The people you are in court with everyday Will are not Brandy! Again I feel we all have made mistakes in one way or another and Brandy's will be life long. Pray Mr. Will as you should also for Brandy and the other parties in the "accident". Could have been anyone of us in both their shoes.

Brandy was involved in a car accident just like me you or anyone could have been in.Where I am from, people die behind the wheel almost daily.YES! She was at fault! According to what the media is reporting, but she was not drunk or on drugs. It was a ACCIDENT! I can't fully understand what the victim's family is going through, but trying to sue this girl for 50 million dollars is straight greed and is not going to bring there love one back!! I'm sure Brandy has a excellent auto insurance policy and a good attorney. My point is, if it was the average Joe as me or you, there wouldn't be no damn wrongful death suit. I wish her well!!!

Once again pump your breaks! I am currently pursuing a career in law myself, and I can understand your passion, but the fact of the matter is, you are looking at things in tunnel view! No I haven't had someone close to me die because of a negligent driver, however I have been in Brandy's shoes at no fault of my own. Due to the negligence of a parent I had a 3 year old little girl run into the side of my car! This occurred on a side street and I was only going between 20-25 mph due to construction on this particular road. A group of unsupervised kids were playing and running in between cars and this little girl ran into the side of my moving car, suffered a broken leg and slight concussion. Again, per police I was not at fault in any way, was not ticketed or anything. I could not sleep for weeks thinking about the what if's ? What if I had been going a little faster? What if she had run in front of the car instead of the side? What her injuries were serious? My point is that this incident was no where near as devastating as the incident involving brandy but it had such an emotional impact on me to the point that I was scared to get behind the wheel. Yes it is horrible that someone died because of Brandy's mistake, but I can only imagine the burden she feels because someone's life has been taken. All I'm saying is that star status or not, were all human and mistakes happen! Trust and believe Brandy will pay for this for the rest of her life.

Just because I feel a certain way because of how this went down. It's not like I haven't made mistakes in life, we all have! But to tell me that this Woman (Brandy) was driving and there was nothing wrong with the weather conditions, the roads were not wet or snowy and your driving at a high rate of speed and all of a sudden you run into someone and knock them into oncoming traffic, the velocity of impact shows IRRESPONSIBILITY, as far as my mistakes, (never behind the wheel of a car!) I've made young, dumb and full of C*^ decisions. Because when I was growing up it was all about being successful in life, making the right decisions, and staying out of jail. Don't get me wrong I still do make mistakes, but as few as possible. Like I said before I don't wanna blast on Brandy like this but if you ever had anybody die at the hands of an ignorant, cruel, drunk driver or just somebody who didn't wanna slow down cause their in a hurry! Then you'll know where I come from. I work in a law firm and we're working on a case where a child's death is involved as well as the mother's death. And you know what the driver said?? "I was in a hurry and didn't see the car in front of me" So trust me when I tell you people like the guy who killed that mother and daughter need to be locked up and throw away the key. We also have another case where a woman hit a pedestrian standing waiting for a bus to get home and the woman behind the wheel ran up on the sidewalk and killed the man who was a young college student studying to be a Pediatrician. So yeah I go through this daily. So don't be so harsh on a brother cause I speak on things that happen to people that resemble almost the same thing we're commenting on....

I just want to say that I don't feel Brandy hurt anyone on purpose! I am not a big fan of her either. I feel this was a huge mistake and she should be punished, but to say she is irresponsible is a little much. I watch everyday at people talk on their cell phones while driving and this could have happen to anyone! To the comment below by Wil, I hope you don't ever make a mistake in life, and I hope that if you do, you get the max. My heart is on both sides of this because life "is" irreplacable. I do know that God has a purpose and that is for both parties involved! I would like for everyone to pray that both sides of this horrible accident get resolution in life.

I just wanna say this, the family of this victim should pursue the "Wrongful Death", and "Survival Action" against Brandy. Because how do you explain "RUNNING INTO THE BACK OF SOMEBODY SITTING IN TRAFFIC AND HITTING THEM AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED AND YOU'RE NOT UNDER THE INFLUENCE!" There should't be any question of charging Brandy with Vehicular Manslaughter. This is an incompetent and malicious act of irresponsibility on her behalf. When you get behind the wheel of any vehicle all eyes on the road, not dialing a cell phone number, putting on make up, or whatever. Cause this situation is what you would call the POINT OF NO RETURN! Death, you don't recover from that, and HUMAN ERROR is not even an issue here. I feel for the family of this woman, and yes they should get whatever their asking for because "YOU CAN'T PUT A PRICE ON LIFE" they won't be able to see her anymore, share holidays with her and if she had kids they won't be able to tell their mother THEY LOVE HER! That's why I feel the way I do, I lost loved ones to car accidents caused by others. That's why I got into Law (paralegal) to help victims of this kind of Malarkey!
