"In My Songs," the title track from Gerald Levert's posthumous album, makes up for in lyrics what it lacks in production: the R&B vocalist reveals a more vulnerable side by exposing himself as much lonelier than he appears: "It's time for me to live out the love that I sing about in my songs." Some might find the track's lethargic slow-jam tempo and old-school melody a bit traditional, but fans who are nostalgic for the soul singer’s contemporary smooth sound will remember fondly why they first fell in love with their "Teddybear. Still others might find this song a heartbreaking conclusion to the soul singer's short and interrupted life.
