Barack Obama raises $25 million - $1 mill shy of Hillary Clinton's campaign.

In his first three months of presidential campaigning, Barack Obama, Democratic Senator of Illinois, has raised almost as much as the frontrunner for the Democratic nomination, Hillary Clinton. Where Clinton raised $26 million, Obama raised $25 million - earned from 100,000 different people, more than half of whom donated via the internet - in an accomplishment that is being seen as a shift in the race. Stakes is high. Obama's finance chairwoman, Penny Pritzker, said, "This overwhelming response, in only a few short weeks, shows the hunger for a different kind of politics in this country and a belief at the grassroots level that Barack Obama can bring out the best in America to solve our problems." Last night, Obama addressed a full-to-the-gills gym in Mason City, Iowa. "They're stunned," he effused. "They said, 'How did this guy named Obama who hasn't been in Washington that long - how'd he raise this money?'" One answer to that question: the internet. Through his website, BarackObama.com, the Senator earned $6.9 million, compared to Clinton's paltry $4.2 million. Recently, YouTube's election campaign channels have shown Obama is tremendously popular with the internet generation; his videos have garnered over 2.7 million views, compared to Clinton's 94,500 and Republican Rudy Giuliani's 59,900. While the views are hardly an accurate gauge on the actual election, they do reflect the tech-savvy interest in Obama as a candidate. Comparatively, both Obama and Clinton have raised more money than any Republican candidate. The highest money raiser was Mitt Romney, ex-governor of Massachusetts, with $23 million. John McCain has raised only $12 million.
