Historic meeting of record executives ran long; press conf. postponed.

An impressive ensemble of hip-hop industry executives, presidents, and artists met in a closed-door meeting with the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network today to discuss initiatives for "challenging the industry in the wake of controversy surrounding hip-hop and the First Amendment," i.e. the soul-searching that followed the Don Imus incident. A press conference announcing their decisions was to immediately follow; however, the talk continued long past the scheduled press conference time of 1 pm, and showed no signs of stopping at press time. A statement issued read, in part, "...our meeting is still in progress. As you know, this is a complex issue that involves gender, race, culture and artistic expression. Everyone assembled today takes this issue very seriously and our dialogue is ongoing."
