T-Boz on Left Eye's Final Days
TLC singer talks to VIBE about her beloved bandmate.
April 25, 2002. It was the night before Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins' birthday, and she had just put her 18-month-old daughter, Chase, in her crib. She was sitting in her rocker watching Judge Mathis when Rozanda "Chilli" Davis called, crying hysterically. "I kept hearing her say, 'Lisa' and then I started having this funny feeling in my chest, tears started coming down my face, and my daughter just woke up, out the blue, screaming, like she felt my pain," T-Boz recalls. Their TLC bandmate had pulled plenty of pranks before, but T-Boz knew instinctively that Left Eye was gone for good this time. Before the tragic car accident, Lisa had been traveling frequently to a spiritual retreat, USHA Healing Center, in Honduras. She spent the last month of her life documenting her days in the Honduran jungle, filming right up until her final moment. Academy Award-nominee Lauren Lazin (Tupac: Resurrection) brings this intimate footage to life in The Last Days Of Left Eye, premiering on VH1 May 19. After viewing the documentary, T-Boz shared her thoughts on the film and her friend:
"I was depressed for two years after Lisa died. Everywhere I went, I had to hear about it, people snickering and talking in the movies and McDonald's. So I just decided to stay in the house.
"I loved Lisa all day long, and I just expected her to be her. Lisa didn't have a problem embracing the word 'crazy.' When we did the Fanmail tour, her rap was, "My claim to fame: Crazy. Left Eye, baby, known as Crazy." So, she put it out there like "Shit, y'all gon' call me crazy, then okay." If she was okay with it, what can we all say?
"Everybody kept calling her the fire starter, trouble maker, she's crazy, she burnt down her boyfriend's house, but no one ever explained that his friends threw rocks through her car. He should have never beat on her. And if the man whose house she burnt down took her back, then what the hell are we sitting here talking about?
"The ending of the movie is what messed with me the most. People told me before I watched it, so I knew what was coming. You just don't like to see nobody you love at the end, when you know what happens. You know how they say when somebody cheats, its' different when you hear, but when you see it, it's a whole different feeling. But I couldn't help but find out because obviously I could see when she was in the casket that her neck was broken.
"Everybody has a different way of finding peace. I'm just happy that Lisa finally gets to tell her story. In the film, Lisa said she has always wanted to grow up and be in the jungle butt-naked and friends with animals. That line had me cracking up. It takes people some time to find what makes them happy. She was on a path there and got cut off in the middle of it."

I really really miss Left Eye, I grew up listening to TLC and they wre my favorite female group then and they sitll are now. Her death was so tragic and unexpected. I believe Lisa's work was done here on earth, she left an amazing impression and I will never forget her.

I was so sadden by the lost of Left Eye and the end of TLC as we knew and loved them,their music touched so many people and they we're all so young and beautiful,but yet influenial with their music and with their indivdial style and sound.
I personally like T-Boz,she seemed to be the more quiet type,the one that was more mature,more layed back,and seemed to be the one that would really step up in the time of crisis.the one who would take the lead when no else would,I love her presona,she seemed to be the one that was more charismatic of the the treio.
CHILI was more of a go get'em type,beautiful,find,but too rambuntios.She seemed sweet thou and a woman that you would definetedly want in your corner,She seemed to be the one that would stand behind her man 100% once she got'em. a sweet and yet stead fast woman.
Left-Eye was as they said"Crazy",cute,fine beautiful,but a real rist taker, a live for the moment type. But she was very talented with a very unique voice and sound ,I really liked Left-Eye,and if she would have slowed her roll as they say,she proabilly would have been the one to embart on a solo career.The world really misses her,I surely do,I wish her family the very best.

I don't think she got cut off in the middle of her path. There had to be a reason why she was taken, she could feel it was coming. Perhaps the spirit was guiding her to her peaceful place where she could find peace before she had to die. I have an aunt that died young, but shortly before she died in her sleep of a brain aneurysm she had told a friend she had fully accepted God, and began to teach CCD classes at a local church. Maybe it was a gift to them both.

First i would like to say that i love all three of them. The documentary was very informative...Lisa Lopes was very smart and brilliant...her ideas really made her stand out...I don't think she was crazy for burning Andre Rison's house, she just got upset and things got out of control...but I do think that while over in Honduras, Lisa crossed a line with God she shouldn't have in dealing with Dr. Sebi and some things she said about about a spirit chasing her, and the fact that she was involving other people in her beliefs that were not inline with God...so I think God took her home.

First Lisa (Left Eye) feels all the appropriate feelings until her car runs over and kills a child, then she feels "haunted" by the childs spirit, then she dies in a tragic accident IN A CAR. This happens 3 days before she is done telling her story of herself,
and finding herself!! In that car there was something going on,She had something in her sight that was not on tape, just like she said in her documentary, you can never feel what we are taping. I never knew if I believed in life after death, but thank you Lisa, I now see the light. I have chills and tears now every time I realize that you had the strength in that last month to let in something no human unterstands, and now, because of you, alot of us still here on earth have gotten the message!!!

I am still a huge fan of TLC, it is real unfortunate, that tragedy struck when it did. I too lost people, that others found to be misunderstood, but as long as we understand the person of their being then they know our hearts. When I saw the documentary of her tapes, I realized we had a good deal in common...I feel as though I just lost one of my best friends. I watched the documentary on Lisa. I feel as if I can understand her. When people call her names it makes me kind of mad, because it's like you never know what someone is going through. Everything happens for a reason. I feel like she was a wonderful person, and she did a wonderful job on documenting her life. I am thankful that she was able to clear things up and tell her side of the story. One of the most funny parts in the documentary was when Boz, Chili, Left Eye were on those kiddie bikes. Watching them, you could tell that they were truly sisters. Also, the Tarzan and Jane scene was really funny. However, the saddest part was the ending, I looked at her face at that moment. She had this look on her face, I can't describe it, but it was a look that I won't ever forget. She may be gone in the physical, but she is not forgotten. That was not the end of Lisa's life, it was only the beginning. Lisa still remains as my idol. God Bless

I am from Jamaica, (West Indies) and i watched the documentary of Lisa last night. I cried so much in the end when i saw the accident cause i loved Lisa alot. I have always loved the group and honestly speaking Lisa and Tboz were my favorite. I love Chilli also but those 2 are my favorites. I hope one day i'll get 2 meet Tboz cause she & Lisa inspired me so much, especially in that song "Unpretty" cause back then i was depressed and going through a phase, but when i heard that song, it inspired me so much and helped me build my self esteem. Lisa is gone now so i won't get to meet her, but i do hope one day i get to meet Tboz. I wish Tboz & Chilli all the best that life has to offer, and i know Lisa is watching over them in heaven. It's been 5 years since the death of Lisa Left Eye Lopes who used to rap with Super group TLC.
Since then Mrs.Lopes, (Lisa mother) Reigndrop (Lisa sister) and Ronald Lopes (Lisa brother) has put together a documentary done by Lisa during Lisa Left Eye Lopes Last days in Honduras.
I was invited by the Lopes family to come and view the documentary of the Last Days of Left Eye this passed week 04/13/07 here in Raleigh/Durham at the North Carolina Film Festival. This film give you a better out look on the life of Lisa Left Eye Lopes.
Lisa was Creative and brilliant to have capture her life from beginning to end on tape. I think the Lopes family did an Excellent job bring Lisa life to the big screen.
I also had he chance to speak with Mrs Lopes & Reigndrop on the film & we also took photos. I thank them for allowing me Lisa BIG Fan to come out and attend.. The Lopes are such wonderful people & always welcomes me when I come to Atlanta to visit..May God continue to bless this family...

The pain of the loss will always be there. I pray for T-Boz and Chili and Left Eye's family. She was a great rapper, the way she worded things made me really stop and say, "$@#! that girl got a mind on her!" I looked forward to years of TLC music and I still do. "What About UR Friends?" I will be around until the end.

I was A TLC fan myself and I was always looking forward to seeing or hearing lefteye flow on a track. I remember the morning or day the press released the news of her passing. I had just pulled up to the nail shop and I was putting my car in park and the radio station had announced that Lefteye had passed. I couldn't believe what i had just heard and instantly I got this Big lump in my throat and the tears just started flowing. The only two individuals I could think about at that moment was Chilli and T-Boz and the pain they were going through. LEFTEYE HAS AND WILL ALWAYS BE MISSED!!!!! R.I.P

I loved TLC. I was in 5th grade when she died. You know that feeling you get in your chest, like an air bubble got stuck? That's what I felt when I found out. It hurt sooo bad. My mom and I were the biggest TLC fans, and to hear of LeftEyes passing hurt the both of us. R.I.P Lefteye

i live in Atlanta, I remeber when TLC first came out. Everybody in the A was on it. I was so happy when my mother took me to their concert, i think it was at the Phipps Arena. I was in 10th grade when Lisa died. it was so many people at New Birth the day of the funeral. I was so hard to believe because she was so young young. i miss her and TLC! She is truely missed in Atlanta!
