The Third Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia will hear oral arguments on September 11, 2007, in the case of Janet Jackson versus her Superbowl costume. Since the 2004 incident in which Justin Timberlake accidentally removed Jackson's bra-top and exposed her breast in their halftime performance, the FCC and cable companies have been deadlocked on the matter, with the FCC pushing for tighter indecency laws, and CBS denying the indecency of the incident / accident. CBS, which aired the show, paid a fine of $550,000, as a prerequisite to their appeal. Depending on the outcome of the ruling, the FCC could impose more stringent standards on what is concidered decent and acceptable on cable television.
