It's official: Rubin's got a new job.

Columbia Records announced Monday (May 14) that mega-producer / stealth beard Rick Rubin has accepted an as-yet-unspecified post at the label. According to a statement, Rubin would join Columbia chairman Steve Barnett in "a dynamic and creative executive partnership." Rubin, who famously formed Def Jam Records with Russell Simmons in a mythical NYU dorm room, will continue producing for artists at all major labels, though it is presumed his position at Columbia will involve some sort of production-deal clause. Rubin famously put the rock in rap on classics from Run-DMC's "My Adidas" to Jay-Z's "99 Problems" - with a host of Slayer, Johnny Cash and Red Hot Chili Peppers credits in between.
