Isaiah Washington, aka Dr. Preston Burke on ABC's hot ER-drama-turned-soap, has been fired for using a homophobic slur against a fellow cast member last year. While shooting the show in fall of '06, he allegedly called T.R. Knight (George O'Malley) a "faggot," outing Knight and resulting a series of apologies both public and private, anger management and strife among the cast.
Washington's publicist told E! Online that he received a call telling him not to return. Washington's strange response, according to the publicist, was, "I'm mad as hell and I'm not gonna take it anymore" - the tagline from "Network," a classic 1970's film about television broadcasting. Washington's next reported project - The Least of These, a thriller about a priest - is currently in pre-production.

He got what he deserved. Derogatory terms should never be allowed, period! Let's stop playing the race card people. It's time to own up to your mistakes.

That's messed up. Dr. Burke is gone. Isaiah may have offended people by calling his co-worker a "fag" but the guy is gay. And gay men are referred to as "fags". It's not nice but that's the way it is. Now we're going to compare that black people being called "ni***rs". Come on now. It's not even the same. Black people can't choose the color of their skin but homosexuals make a lifestyle choice. Fired---that's foul but the creator of Grey's Anatomy and the "powers that be" have to be politically correct. Isaiah was disposable. Now, Grey is down one black person in the cast. I hope that the show can keep minorities involved because I really like it but if they make it look and feel like snow, I'll be a previous viewer.

Freedom of speech does not mean you can say what you want. If this were reversed you'd betta believe it would have went down even quicker. Just look at Imus...
If it is my opinion that women should be in the kitchen barefoot and pregnant, and I go around saying that to everyone at my job, what do you think will happen? Especially if my job requires me to speak to the media.
Being gay is not a lifestyle just as much as being black, blind, white, male or female are a not a lifestyle. It is not a choice.

Uhhhhh no people!! C'mon now, everyone is wonderin what would have happened had it been the other way around. Well in this "politically correct" world, the moment word would have gotten out that the "white" guy made a remark about the black guy, all hell would have broke loose. Jesse, AL, hell anyone who can spell civil rights would have been putting pressure on the show to fire him. So conversly, when the brother f*cks up, he has to pay too!! We can't have it both ways people!! That's why we can get taken so lightly sometimes is we;re the firt ones to holler if something happens to us, but then we don't want "our" people to be responsible for their actions. Hell they waited for months to fire him and give it a chance to go away but obviously the work enviroment had changed for the worse. It's too bad it happened, but he was out of pocket.

It was very extreme. And I too wonder what it would have been like if it were the other way around.... and to top it off, the other guy is going to get a nice little 125,00 per episode and has the audience drawing power of spilled lemonade without sugar...
This is so unfortunate, the only real positive image that young black men have on TV... let's get real, given the roles of the "good" polic officers are not their reality... it is more of a reality to become a Dr and than have a good police officer in the hood... Stalled or destroyed career, lost role and it pays to be gay!!!! Nice message for some of the young people isnt it...
Most people I heard speaking about say they probably wont watch it no matter who they replace him with....
Oh, welL...

I think his firing is extreme! He apologized, and went to anger management classes, when was the last time an entertainer went thru such extremes for using the "N" word? I realize Hollywood supports the Gay agenda and that lifestyle (I don't) but to lose your job-what next, a 2007 version of the McCarthy trials because not everyone celebrates gayness!!

SO MUCH FOR FREEDOM OF SPEECH, IF HE IS AGAINST PEOPLE BEING GAY THEN THATS HIS BELIEF, EVERYBODY HAS A RIGHT TO VOICE THEIR OPINIONS WE MAY NOT ALL AGREE WITH IT, AND SOME OF US MIGHT. I DON'T THINK HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIRED. IM SURE HE'S NOT THE FIRST PERSON TO EVER EXPRESS THEIR DISLIKE FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE GUY. BELIEVE IT OR NOT, NOT EVERYBODY SUPPORTS OR TOLERATE THAT LIFESTYLE.
