Trading community service for a concert ticket: BMRC ongoing through October.

Above, volunteers at this year's BMRC Atlanta event. The Boost Mobile RockCorps (BMRC), the altruistic music/volunteer program which trades community service for a concert ticket, has already hit eight major cities this summer, giving participants the opportunity to better their neighborhoods and see shows by the likes of Lil Wayne, Beyonce, Keyshia Cole, Thicke, Eve and more. Young Jeezy's even been in on the BMRC grind - in this video, the thug motivator performs "Go Getta" and drops a Public Service Announcement on 'em: BMRC, now in its third year, will finish out the summer with three more shows and volunteer efforts - including cleaning and restoring parks and schools. The concerts in Philly (August 27) and Chicago (September 2), will feature the rock band Taking Back Sunday; the line-up for the New York City show (October 6) has yet to be announced, but will feature some of the biggest names in hip hop and alternative rock (last year featured Nas, Kelis, T.I., Fabolous and Panic! At the Disco). Even with the big name draws, Stephen Greene, co-founder of RockCorps, says the volunteers find their workdays become less about the concert tickets and more about the task at hand - bettering the community. "We have all been blown away at the power of music to affect social change," says Greene. "Since linking up with the visionary company that Boost Mobile is, BMRC has had over 30,000 volunteers, partnered with more than 200 non-profit organizations, and reached millions more who have heard the message that 'volunteering is cool.' The artists get it, the communities get it and the volunteers really get it." Here's Lil Wayne doing "Fireman" at this summer's Boost Mobile Rockcorps Atlanta concert: "Boost Mobile RockCorps... is creating a lasting impression with young adults," says Darryl "DC" Cobbin, chief marketing officer of Boost Mobile. "Utilizing the power of music as the ultimate reward for community service allows us to reach a diverse group of potential volunteers. We applaud RockCorps' unique approach to exposing young people to simple ways they can impact their community and are pleased to help make this vision a reality."
