Diddy is being sued for the rights to a Biggie recording session dating back 13 years.
The twist, however, is that the plaintiff is James Sabatino, who not only worked as a Bad Boy consultant, but later was named a "person of interest" in the investigation into the Notorious B.I.G.'s murder. Sabatino is currently serving time in a Florida prison for unrelated charges of phone fraud and threatening to murder a federal prosecutor.
The suit claims Sabatino paid for the 1994 session, plunking down the cash for the studio rental, the plane fare, the recording (17 minutes of audio) and a video recording, too (90 minutes long). He said he and Diddy made a verbal deal that whatever material and money came from the session would be owned by Sabatino, but there was never any paperwork or a contractual agreement.
The suit alleges that in 1997, after Biggie's death, Diddy offered to purchase the material for $200,000, and made a $25,000 down payment. But when Sabatino was declared a person of interest in the murder, according to the lawsuit, Diddy refused to pay the rest of the money, saying it would look bad for him to cut such a large check and hand it to a suspect.
Sabatino is seeking $19 million in damages.
In other Diddy news: the Bad Boy mogul has acknowledged his sixth daughter after a DNA test. The 15-month-old, Chance, is the child of Sarah Chapman, an Atlanta resident with whom Diddy had an affair. He told the New York Post, "At first, I wasn't sure if this was my child. Now
that it has become clear she is, I will take care of her for the rest
of her life." Kim Porter, Diddy's longtime on-again-off-again-on-again girlfriend and mother of his son and twin daughters, has not yet commented.
