Maybe it's no surprise, what with the music industry raining bricks and only betting on sure-thing megastars, but Kelis Rogers, aka Mrs. Nasir Jones, aka "Ms. Boss-ay," has been unceremoniously dumped from Jive Records, according to Entertainment Weekly. Her manager, Jeff Rabhan, explained to the magazine, "It was a case of being in the ever-shrinking world of the record
industry and finding herself on a label she wasn't signed to and
without a champion."
This comes off the frustratingly poor visibility of her last album, Kelis Was Here, despite it being some of her best work, producing the chica-power-anthem "Bossy" and the sexy power-dynamic hit "Blindfold Me," which featured Kelis and husband Nas in one of the hottest half-nekkid videos MTV ever (never?) aired. Said Rabhan, "She's a different kind of artist - very image and style-driven. It's either something you get or you don't."According to EW, she's currently working on a dance record with Cee-Lo (who guest-starred on Was Here's "Little Star") and looking for a less traditional label deal.
Don't worry, Kelisita... whatever happens, we're gonna ride for you till the wheels fall off.
