Too Short, who performed with Pimp C in Los Angeles just days before the UGK rapper's untimely passing, speaks with VIBE about his longtime friend.

VIBE: Some have said you were with Pimp right before he died.
TOO SHORT: Nah. Like Saturday, I did a show at House of Blues in L.A. He came out onstage. Came backstage, you know.

Was he in a weird mood, a sad mood, anything?
He was in an extra good mood. We spoke on Sunday. I was still in L.A. We talked about gettin' up, you know, later. He was going to the Mac Store. He was excited about it. You know how everybody always gets excited about a damn Mac Store. We never did hook back up, though. He wasn't with me on Sunday, or Monday. Pimp C was my boy. We go back to the early '90s.

What has the world lost with Pimp C's death?
If you think about pioneers who impacted rap... like I did in Oakland, like Biggie did in New York, [Pimp] did that to the whole South. The rest of the world didn't get to know that, to understand that. People didn't properly get into UGK until 2000's "Big Pimpin'." They was doin' stuff way before that. That's why Jay went to get them. Jay keeps an open mind. Not like I only listen to this or that because it's from where I'm from.

Pimp C was one of your closest friends, one of your best friends?
Definitely. Had he not gone to prison... We would have been rollin' that whole time. Look in the video - I was in "Big Pimpin'." Jay hadn't called me for that. I was there with Pimp!
