Trekkies, behold a thing of beauty. Tyler Perry, don of African American cinema, has landed a role in the latest Star Trek film, Star Trek 11, to be released on December 25, 2008. According to the Trek Movie Report, Perry plays the head of the Starfleet Academy and dresses down student James T. Kirk in an infamous scene among Trekkies where Kirk is the only person to ever pass the Kobayashi Maru test - but he wins by reprogramming the computer, basically cheating. Perry's character, as the boss/instructor, reportedly tells Kirk what time it is, threatening to expel him.
Perry just cut the scene a few weeks ago in the Long Beach City Council Chamber with actors Chris Pine (who plays student Kirk) and Zachary Quinto (who plays student Spock). Other stars of the film include Zoe Saldana as Nyota Uhura, Eric Bana as Nero, and Winona Ryder as Amanda Grayson.
Perry's next project is Meet the Browns starring Angela Bassett, Sofia Vergera and Rick Fox, due to drop in March.
