On Tuesday night, the 11th annual Mixtape Awards went down at an undisclosed location in New York City. The invite-only award show was founded by the late Orpheus Faison, more publicly known as DJ Justo, who died in 2005.
The biggest award, (or Justo, as they are more commonly known) of the night went to DJ Drama’s Gangsta Grillz: The Album for Mixtape of the Year. Gangsta Grillz beat out Lil Wayne’s Da Drought 3, DJ On Point and Joe Budden’s Mood Muzik 3, DJ Big Mike, Poobs, and Styles P’s The Phantom, Superstar Jay and Remy Martin’s Shesus Khryst and Death Certificate by DJ Skee, DJ Haze, Sept 7 and Juice.
Drama also received the most awards of the evening, winning in the categories of Best Dirty South Mixtape DJ and the DJ Kay Slay Award for Best Mixtape DJ.
Styles P took home the Justo for Best East Coast Mixtape Artist alongside Killer Mike, who took home the Best East Coast Mixtape DJ award. Styles beat out Joe Budden, Saigon, Papoose and Uncle Murder. Big Mike’s victory came over DJ Whoo Kid, Diggz, Superstar Jay and White Owl. Big Mike also received the Best Mixtape Duo award with DJ Thoro.
Lil Wayne won Best Dirty South Mixtape Artist. Rick Ross, Young Jeezy, T.I. and Pimp C were all nominated as well. The Best West Coast DJ award went to DJ Skee, and Crooked I was named the Best West Coast Artist Mixtape artist. Skee also received the Best Blends Mixtape DJ award. Mick Boogie represented for the sole Midwest category, winning Best Midwest DJ. And Miami’s, DJ Khaled received the award for Best Personality on a Mixtape. Each Justo recipient is chosen in part by the public through an online ballot and by the votes of an executive committee.
