Black Eyed Peas front man, Will.i.am will be honored as Artist of the Year at the 12th Annual Webby Awards on June 8-10 in New York City. The Webbys are honoring Will.i.am for his contribution to the “political landscape” with his “Yes We Can” video. The video, which he put on YouTube in February 2008, features celebrities such as John Legend, Common and Scarlett Johansson among others was created in support for the presidential candidate and has been viewed over 17 million times since its premiere. The Webbys credit Will.i.am for bringing attention to the political race and reaching millions of people through the Web.
Stephen Colbert, host of Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report, will be honored as Person of the Year at the Webbys for using the Internet to interact with fans of his show. Webby Special Achievement Awards, or Webbys for short are given to those that the Webby Awards committee feels truly represent the "best of the
Web". Winners are chosen by members of the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences.
In other Obama-web news, Taz Arnold, also known as TI$A, leader of the underground hip hop group Sa-Ra (formerly singed to Kanye’s label G.O.O.D Music) has launched his solo career with his first single, a tribute to Obama entitled “Vote Obama.” The video features cameos from Kanye, Jay-Z, Chris Brown, Travis Barker and Apple of the Black Eyed Peas.
