Winehouse and another woman in the footage get a laugh when she sings the lyrics to the old children’s song, “Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes” and flips the song into racist epithets, “Blacks, Pakis, Gooks and Nips, Gooks and Nips” …and deaf and dumb and blind and gay.” The husband pretended he wasn’t recording the footage, but in fact he really was, even going as far as to swear on his life and Winehouse’s he wasn’t filming her. The footage also showed drug paraphernalia on a table in the room where the song was sung. The footage was reportedly filmed after the couple’s marriage in May. The content of the video was first reported Sunday in the British tabloid News of the World.
The paper reported that early this morning Winehouse invited some fans into her apartment, but not before holding what was a described as a surprise press conference. On the front step of her residence, Winehouse talked about the incident and described the irresponsibility of the way News of the World handled the footage.
“I don’t want to play anything down, but I’m the least racist person going,” she said. “I think they [News of the World] should have starred out certain words.”
The Daily Mail also reported that Winehouse was seen out with her father, Mitch, on Sunday in London’s Camden neighborhood, where she was talking to her fans as the leaked racist-video scandal was developing.
“If people could see the real Amy…they would realize she is not in a constant pit of misery or permanently drug-addled,” her dad reportedly said. “She’s getting better, working hard, standing by her husband and desperate to have a family.”
