Coroner says Levert’s death could have been avoided

The family of LeVert  member, Sean Levert, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Cuyahoga County in Ohio for what is now being viewed as an avoidable demise.

On March 30, Levert died in Luthern Hospital an hour after being taken from the Cuyahoga County jail. He was sentenced the week before to one year and 10 months behind bars for failing to pay about $91,000 in child support.

According to the County Coroner, the 39-year-old son of Eddie Levert and brother of the late Gerald Levert, died of natural causes, stemming from complications of sarcoidosis, the same disease that inflicted the late comedian Bernie Mac.

The coroner also discovered that Levert’s withdrawal symptoms from Xanax may have contributed to his death. According to The Plain Dealer, Levert called his family the morning of his death complaining of profuse sweating and hallucinations. The Cuyahoga County Jail allegedly denied Levert his doctor-prescribed medicine and gave him Xanax instead, which contributed to complications that made his heart stop.

Levert’s widow Angela Lowe has filed suit against the county, which will be defended by Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Bill Mason.
