Rapper loses GM truck deal

It was all good just a year ago. But in 2009, everything has spelled bad luck for 50.

The rapper who was recently described as, “the reigning king of hip-hop” by Forbes after earning the twenty-sixth spot in their coveted rich list, has lost his G8 truck sponsorship with General Motors today.

GM Corporation had plans with the rapper to release the two-door, six-foot bed vehicle in 2010. The rapper proudly debuted it at the 2008 New York International Auto Show. But because of the Recession Boogeyman, GM spokesperson Jim Hopson says that the company is restructuring (translation: they don’t have time to be concerned with 50’s truck).

The disappointment comes right on the heels of 50’s questionable rap career, and MTV’s decision to cancel his "Apprentice"-esque reality show, “The Money And The Power,” after only six episodes.

"Our new shows will feature themes of affirmation and accomplishment," Brian Graden, MTV Networks' vice president of entertainment, said. "Our shows are going to focus less on loud and silly hooks and more on young people proving themselves."
