Jermaine Dupri, President of Island Records, Urban Division, has been given the pink slip.
Reason for the firing has not been released yet, but according to AllHipHop, Dupri’s termination is effective immediately. Dupri’s time at Island consisted of bringing Mariah Carey back to prominence with her 2005 masterpiece The Emancipation of Mimi.
The producer, executive, and artist served as president of the Island Def Jam created position for two years. He reported directly to Antonio “L.A.” Reid, and Steve Bartells, Island Music’s president who also operates as COO of Island Def Jam.
