Chris Brown had a busy Grammy Award weekend. But instead of picking up awards, the 19-year-old R&B star is under investigation on alleged domestic violence felony battery. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Brown was involved in an altercation early Sunday morning with a woman whose name was not released. Brown turned himself in to authorities Sunday night where he was booked for Criminal Threats. He quickly posted $50,000 bail and was released Sunday night.
Both Brown and girlfriend Rihanna, 20, attended Clive Davis’ annual Pre-Grammy party together Saturday night and were scheduled to perform at the Grammys, but a statement was released Sunday evening: “We have just been informed that Rihanna will not be attending tonight's 51st Annual Grammy Awards. We're sorry she is unable to join us this evening.” Another statement announcing Brown’s absence followed.
According to a statement from the LAPD, “Brown and the woman were in a vehicle on North June street in the Hancock Park area of Los Angeles when, according to the victim, they became involved in an argument. After stopping his car, Brown and the woman got out and the argument escalated. The woman suffered visible injuries and identified Brown as her attacker.”
Initial reports indicated Rihanna’s absence from the event was related to a car accident Sunday morning. A statement from her publicist said the singer was “well.”
