Live from the Sidelines of the American Black Film Festival
In 1997, a man by the name of Jeff Friday created a film festival to strengthen and promote the creation of black cinema and the filmmakers who bring such material to life. Being no stranger to the finer things in life, Jeff got a little extra with it and decided to locate this black film festival in Acapulco, Mexico. Since that time, what was formerly known as the Acapulco Black Film Festival found a home in South Beach, Miami, and became firmly established as the American Black Film Festival, or ABFF. Now, after a decade in the struggle of bringing "urban films" to the forefront of the American entertainment consciousness, the American Black Film Festival (of which VIBE is an official sponsor) set up shop in the promised land, the Mecca of movie-making - Hollywood!... This Christmas: Keeping Up with the Whitfields
You can expect two things from today’s Christmas flicks: a buttery serving of hitch-free family harmony, or slapstick comedy that normally involves a deranged Santa. This Christmas - directed by Preston Whitmore II, and produced by Mekhi Phifer, Ronnie Walker, and Damon Lee - contains neither. Less National Lampoon, more Soul Food, Christmas stars a roster of A-class actors: Loretta Divine, Idris Elba, Delroy Lindo, Columbus Short, Sharon Leal, Lauren London, David Banner, Regina King, Mekhi Phifer, and young R&B romeo Chris Brown - who plays a character named Baby.... Carolina on My Mind
The primary process, in place since 1912, has long been controversial. Larger states resent the influence tiny New Hampshire and Iowa have in deciding who the eventual nominees for each party will be. But it's not just the smaller populations that bug party bosses.... (read more)

Ghostface, Rakim, Brother Ali: All the Way Live
It's an hour before the Hip Hop Live tour kicks off, and Ghostface Killah is making no move towards acknowledging that he's due on stage soon. Seated in a dim room upstairs at the Hollywood House of Blues, Ghost responds to a query about the exemplary crimson-and-green custom wallabees he's rocking to match his leather jacket: "No one has more style than me! Kanye? No. Slick Rick is the only one, I give it up for Slick Rick."... (read more)
Keke Palmer Keeps it Movin'
Keke Palmer is 14, and she's already a force. Since her breakaway star-turn in 2006's Akeelah and the Bee, she's dropped a solo album (So Uncool, Atlantic Records), landed roles in Madea's Family Reunion, Jump In! and Cleaner with Samuel L Jackson, and she's currently tearing up your BET with the subway anthem "Keep it Movin."... Get it Gotti: Irv Gotti Spills All on 50 Cent, Ashanti, more
Irv "Gotti" Lorenzo is what we call in the journalism biz a certified "quote monster." The man oversaw one of the most successful record imprints in hip hop history, with Murder Inc - only to witness his musical empire crumble from the weight of the backlash from the antagonizing 2003 emergence of 50 Cent and, more notably. his 2005 trial for federal money laundering charges. Even so, Irv talks without a filter. And while such a verbal affliction may be a nightmare for any publicist, Irv, whose comeback is currently documented in the bare bones VH-1 reality-show Gotti's Way, revels in the controversy. From his thoughts on the roadblocks he faces pushing Murder Inc.'s languishing franchise player Ja Rule back to the top of the charts, his surprising signing of pop piano prodigy Vanessa Carlton, and his rift with publicly disgruntled star Ashanti, Irv Gotti doesn't hold anything back.... Atlanta police arrested the 33-year-old rapper at around 1:20 am last night following the altercation, which witnesses say escalated from a verbal argument, to pushing, to Da Brat's alleged over-the-head rum-bottle crack....
