Before the torrent of media and flashing lights arrives, the five brothers of B5 anxiously wait in the intimately decorated lounge of Sean “P. Diddy” Combs’ Daddy’s House Recording Studio, flipping through the latest issue of Right On! magazine. The singing, acrobatic quintet—Dustin, 15, Kelly, 15, Patrick, 14, Carnell, 13 and Lil' Bryan, 10—just happen to grace the pages.

Before the torrent of media and flashing lights arrives, the five brothers of B5 anxiously wait in the intimately decorated lounge of Sean "P. Diddy" Combs' Daddy's House Recording Studio, flipping through the latest issue of Right On! magazine. The singing, acrobatic quintet-Dustin, 15, Kelly, 15, Patrick, 14, Carnell, 13 and Lil' Bryan, 10-just happen to grace the pages. After listening to tracks from B5's self-titled debut, drenched with PG13 songs of partying and prepubescent love, Bad Boy's latest clan performs acapella to prove their impressive vocal skills. The bubbly brethren are sure to draw comparisons to other R&B youngsters, namely the Jackson 5 due to their namesake and high-pitched libretto, but Diddy seems determined to hone his newest protégés into unique sensations. B5's Patrick and Dustin took time to chat with Vibe.com. I know there are five of you, but what does the B stand for in B5? Patrick: B5 stands for Brothers 5, and our last name starts with a B. So it's pretty much Breeding 5, similar to Jackson 5. Where are you guys from? Patrick: We're from St. Petersburg, Florida. How did you guys get into singing? Patrick: When we were little, we used to go to the Radio Disney Concerts [in Florida] and tried to win for auditions and to get tickets to concerts. After that though, it just escalated and we formed the group. How old were you guys then? Dustin: Probably like 12. Patrick: 12 or 11. Describe your sound. Dustin: I would describe our sound as a mix of pop, R&B, hip hop, you know. But our music is for everybody. We don't have a particular type of fan, from 5-years-old kids all the way up to adults like 25. So it's for everybody, and they can all listen to it and enjoy. How do you guys distinguish yourselves from other boy groups like B2K and N'Sync? Patrick: Well, for one, we're all brothers. We make up our own choreography so everything you see on stage is all us. Our music is different, too. We have our own unique sound, and I think that separates us a lot. What's your dancing style? Dustin: It's very hip-hop. Patrick: Yeah, a lot of pop and a lot of hip hop. Dustin: Street, a lot of street. What's your first single? Patrick: The single "All I Do" by Rodney Jerkins is out, it's hot. Have you gotten a chance to meet with Diddy yet? Patrick: Yeah, we hang out with Diddy all the time. He's real cool. He's real laid back. He don't have a big ego, thinking he's all that, you know. He's real down to earth. Did you have to go through boot camp like some of Diddy's other acts? Dustin: Like Da Band? Patrick: Nah we didn't have to walk [laughs]. Dustin: We didn't walk for no cheesecake or nothing [laughs]. For all the people who'll be getting familiar with the group in the coming months, what can you promise your fans? Patrick: Good music. Dustin: Good shows, very live, energetic. If you came to one of our shows, we wouldn't disappoint you. We won't let our fans down. Audio: B5 - "All I Do"
