"Come Get It" featuring Jadakiss, leads the collection of mostly self-penned songs. At first listen, the horns that commence the hard hitting R&B track sound like the announcement of an arrival, similar to Beyonce's "Crazy In Love." However, the difference this time around-- the horns, courtesy of Rockwilder - are a warning.
right Yummy represents a new breed of women in R&B and she joins those already defining the subset, including Keyshia Cole, Faith Evans, Olivia and Teedra Moses, all of whom studied the Mary J. Blige blueprint for success. And like her predecessors, Yummy fires off the same bravada with confidence. Following the horns on "Come Get It" she warns, "Boy do you know, what you're really asking me for? 'Cause if you don't then you need make sure I'm what you want... 'Cause I got something for ya."
A lot of Yummy's fire is authenticated by her childhood. The once mischievous teen from the projects who is the real life godchild of R&B legends Chaka Khan and Aaron Hall, admits, "It's not pretty where I'm from. Robberies, drug-dealing, shootouts, fights-- I've been in it, around it and through it all."
Yummy's 180 degree turn came just as Naughty By Nature producer, Kay Gee, took interest after hearing a demo she made with her father, music producer Osborne "Dinky" Bingham, Jr., who has worked with New Edition, Kylie Minogue, Changing Faces, Bobby Brown and the trio Guy.
Kay Gee signed Yummy to a group known as Tha Rayne, who later went on to contribute to Jaheim's "Fabulous". However, Yummy felt stifled under the guise of a group.
Fast forward a few years and Yummy's resume has acquired quite a few interesting accomplishments which include writing a “gritty, edgy and profane song” for Amerie’s recent cd, Touch, titled “Man Up” featuring Nas. “It’s very much not like what her style is like which is why I think they didn’t put it on her U.S. release,” says Yummy, who confesses she sees herself as a songwriter first. And she promises that the same flavor can be heard on First Seed, which was symbolically named to reference not only her first solo musical offering but also noting she is the first artist officially under Rockwilder’s tutelage.
As Yummy prepares the follow up single, “Is It Good To You,” and looks forward to an appearance on the upcoming Busta Rhymes’ cd, Big Bang, it becomes evident her design is as much about the grind as it is the grime. "I'm in this game because I love music, it's my passion and I'm doing it with people I love," Yummy makes clear. "As long as I have my Muzic Parc Family, I'm gonna keep grindin'."
