With reggeaton headlining one of the biggest cross-over acts in music, and becoming as mainstream as it has in recent years, it was inevitable that people and cultures alike would eventually tune in to the sounds of the Dem Bow. Today, aside from selling millions of records and having international fanbases, reggeaton artists have sneaker endorsements, represent clothing lines, and collaborate with some of the most prominent American artists.

Such is the mash-up between Hector "El Father" and Jay-Z, which goes far beyond their joint track, "Here We Go, Yo," since Hector was one of the first artist to be signed to the Roc-a-Fella extension, Roc La Familia.

Hector Delgado Roman, who was nicknamed "El Father" by the Puerto Rican public, is not only one half of the ex-duo Hector y Tito, but is also a visionary and the man behind some of the most popularly-known reggaeton artists topping today’s charts such as Angel y Khriz, Wisin y Yandel, and Don Omar.

right “I feel like I have a good visualization of what a good reggaeton artist should be and when I feel like I’ve got a hold of a good artist, I work with them and thank God, all of the artists that I’ve worked with have been very successful," explains Hector. "It went that way for YOMO, Don Omar, Trebol Clan, and Angel y Khriz…”

The business-man/reggeatonero not only front-runs his own career and the career of others, but he also founded his own record label, GoldStar Music, in 2004. He credits the label as being more of “ a family” and “…the company that has many of the artists that occupy the top spots in today’s reggaeton scene.” His newest spawn, YOMO is currently in the studio and his album will hopefully drop some time next year, though no specific dates were mentioned. His first single, however, “Dejale Caer to el Peso,” has been on heavy rotation across radio airwaves.

Last year, Hector signed a contract with the Def Jam president himself, and released “Los Rompe Discotekas" (The Club Bangers) on June 20, Hector’s debut on La Familia. “It features Fat Joe, Wisin y Yandel (with me on a track), Zion y Lennox, Polaco with Freeway… all of the gentlemen of reggaeton,” says Hector. Others included are Don Omar, one of his Roc-a-Fella brethren, Memphis Bleek, and Alexis y Fido, to name a few.

“This album has a lot of strange stuff on it. Everybody’s really waiting for it to drop. For example, I team up with Jay-Z on “Here We go Yo” [which is the first single] and for real, this album is gonna put reggaeton down in history…something that Puerto Ricans already know about, and now Americans are gonna know about it too.”

Jay-Z previously stated that Hector represents precisely what Roc La Familia is all about: the ability to mix genres and present real stories and messages to the audience. “For me, I feel like this is a very important point in my career in that it allows me to position myself in the Anglo market and it allows me to work with Jay-Z, who for me, is the number one rapper in the world. I feel that this [opportunity] will bring a lot of [good] things for my career, so I’m gonna take advantage of it and work with it," exclaims Hector.

Inspired by his son, Hector continues to bring forth music that fans so adamantly demand. He promises to cater to the masses with upcoming projects such as his own album titled The Bad Boy, as well as albums by YOMO and Trebol Clan. “We’re in a great movement of the genre," he chuckles. "I feel like everyone is doing well.”

When asked what his personal motto was to keep things running on a successful path, Hector simply stated “Just keep moving forward and be calm. Enjoy life, but in a healthy way and always remember that there’s a God up there that never fails you…because in life, there are no friends. There’s not a human being that lives life for another, but there is a God that’ll never fail you.”

It seems like Hector has got his mind right, spiritually and business wise. Apparently, he’s also found his home away from home. And a match made in heaven it is.
