The beginning of the NBA season is always an exciting time. It's about growing as a team, getting the camaraderie down... getting on the offense and working out the defense. I've been thinking a lot about my personal goals on the court. I mostly want to have a healthy season and win an NBA title. Winning the title is all I can think about right now. With the Phoenix Suns, we have a great opportunity to do that.
The off-season was great. I was invited to be an ambassador of Copa PanAmericana Tournament in Arizona... the first one ever. I made the first kick to start out the first game in the Tournament. The Boca Juniors made me an honorary team member. It was huge step for me, from an international standpoint. I got to see some of the best soccer players from around the world playing on the field. I'm making it a goal to go down to South America next summer and maybe practice with the Boca Juniors down in Argentina. Playing with FIBA this summer was a really good time too... winning a gold medal, and playing alongside Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, and guys of that nature. It also got our USA Basketball Team definitely playing the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
I have also been busy working on some stuff away from basketball. I've got a charity project called the STAT-o-Claus that I'm working on right now to bring gifts to kids in Arizona that need the help. I'm sending a letter out to kids at several schools to get them to write a letter to "STAT-o-Claus" (guess who that will be) about what they feel about education, and what it means to them.
So for the kids that have improved a lot in school, STAT-o-Claus will bless them with toys and stuff. I want to show kids how important it is to know where you're from, and what it takes to get to where you wanna be. So if you can give back somehow, especially during the holidays, I encourage all of you to do it.
I've been picking up VIBE for a while. I'm excited to be working with VIBE because the mag does such a thorough job in filling you in on all the different aspects of hip hop culture. You get to hear the very latest on music, sports, fashion... I think it's great for our culture.
I'm real excited to be working with Vibe.com, as their main NBA blogger. I think everything online is huge right now. I've put a lot of personal effort into my website, www.amarestoudemire.com, and when I heard Vibe was growing their website, I knew that I wanted to be involved somehow. I think blogging is high on the culture list... it's a great place to show some love, reach out to people a little bit... all through a blog. It will be a great opportunity for me to speak directly to fans, and hopefully it will be really enjoyable for all you readers as well. In my blog, I'm going to be to sharing with you guys about the NBA season... what's going on with communities across the world. The NBA is what most of my fans know me as, but I think people also know me as a community-conscious guy. I hope my blog can talk about some of those things I'm working on charity-wise. I also want to share about some of the events I'm apart of, music I'm checking out these days, and other outside interests I have. I'd love to hear from you guys too! Let me know wassup... And have a great and safe holiday.
