After over 54,000 votes, the results of the first round for VIBE’s Best Rapper Alive tournament are in, with a few surprises heading into round 2.
All four of the number one seeds beat out their opponents by huge margins. The biggest upset happened in the Notorious B.I.G. bracket, where in NCAA Tournament-like fashion, the number 12 seed – Juelz Santana – bested his fellow Dipset member, the number 5 seed, Cam’ron (pictured together). The Biggie bracket also had the closest match up. Number 7 seeded Mos Def inched out a victory over his fellow Black Star member Talib Kweli, receiving 51 percent of the vote to Kweli’s 49 percent.
In the Pimp C bracket, match ups expected to be close were actually not close at all. The 6-11 match up between Young Jeezy and Rick Ross was an easy win for the Snowman who received 73 percent of the vote and Lil Boosie beat out his frequent collaborator Webbie, 58 percent to 42 percent respectively.
Another upset occurred in the 2Pac bracket, where former G Unit member Young Buck beat Lloyd Banks by a 10 percent margin and in the Big Punisher Bracket, the Internet rap king and number 14 seeded Crooked I, was unable to upset his opponent, the Game.
With the second round now in full motion, some interesting match ups have surfaced. In the 2Pac bracket, fan favorite Big Boi, the number 6 seed, squares off against the polarizing 50 Cent, the number three seed. In the Big Punisher bracket, a battle of two West Coast legends is taking place between number 7 seeded Ice Cube and number 2 seeded Snoop Dogg.
Be sure to vote in the second round until August 3. The winners will be shown on August 4, when the tournament's semi-finals begin.
